El cas de Se\u00fcl \u00e9s peculiar per les greus repercussions ambientals que va suposar la construcci\u00f3 d\u2019una autopista elevada de 5,6 km de recorregut i 16 m d\u2019amplada just per sobre del riu Cheonggyecheon. L\u2019obra es va acabar l\u2019any 1976 i es va convertir en un cas exemplar de la industrialitzaci\u00f3 i modernitzaci\u00f3 de Corea del Sud, tot i ser una \u00e0rea molt congestionada i amb greus nivells de soroll i contaminaci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Vint-i-cinc anys m\u00e9s tard, Lee Myung-bak, ex CEO de Hyundai Engineering and Construction, va ser escollit alcalde de Se\u00fcl amb una gran campanya per convertir la ciutat en un centre tur\u00edstic i de negocis del nord-est d\u2019\u00c0sia, juntament amb la promesa que eliminaria el viaducte de l\u2019autopista per sobre el riu Chenoggyecheon. Entre 2003 i 2005 es va dur a terme el projecte de restauraci\u00f3 de l&#8217;\u00e0rea, una obra de gran complexitat per recuperar l\u2019antic curs del riu aportant-hi aigua provinent del seu afluent Han i del subs\u00f2l. Paral\u00b7lelament es va construir una l\u00ednia BRT pel recorregut de l&#8217;antiga autopista, per complementar la xarxa de metro i ajudar a absorbir els 120.000 usuaris diaris que feien servir la via r\u00e0pida.<br \/>\n<iframe title=\"2  Cheonggyecheon River   history and restoration\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NJkZYCiXRAw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>El projecte ha representat un canvi de mentalitat amb relaci\u00f3 al frenes\u00ed de progr\u00e9s i industrialitzaci\u00f3, ara amb noves preocupacions per recuperar la identitat, no nom\u00e9s pel que fa al valor ambiental del riu, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 per recuperar-ne la hist\u00f2ria i la cultura, aix\u00ed com el valor patrimonial dels antics ponts que el travessaven.
