On 16 June, Ecoparc del Mediterrani (Ecoparc 3) became a meeting point for around fifty professionals from the sector. Their shared objective was to tackle one of the most complex challenges in waste management: the treatment of emissions and odours.
As part of EU Green Week 2026, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) and the LIFE ABATE project team wanted to open our doors to show, first-hand, how we are working on an innovative solution that aims to bring about a real change in our facilities.
Invisible challenges: much more than a visit
The event was much more than a technical visit. Under the title “Invisible Challenges”, we organised a round table that became the heart of the event. Three experts joined us, each bringing an essential perspective:
- Maria Paula Marozzi (FCC Medio Ambiente), who shared the operational challenges faced by mechanical-biological treatment plants.
- Cyntia Izquierdo Zamora (Ambiente et Odora, SL), an international reference in strategic odour management.
- Mireia Morla (Government of Catalonia), who provided the necessary perspective on regulatory compliance and air quality monitoring.
It was an open and engaging discussion, with questions that showed just how eager the sector is for real solutions and, above all, for a shift in the way we approach our relationship with the environment.

The pilot project in action
The practical part of the event took us to the #LIFEABATE pilot plant. There, the 50 participants had the opportunity to see first-hand how the technology we are developing aims to reduce the impact of emissions, demonstrating that efficiency and sustainability should go hand in hand.
